So, she hasn’t written a post in over a year and suddenly she writes one that’s kind of a downer!
I know, sorry!
My husband recently asked why I quit writing on my blog. I didn’t have an answer. There are several blogs that I read and they share so much personal stuff. I wasn’t sure if that much sharing was for me and found that the only things I could think to write about might not be that interesting.
I decided I don’t care.
We have interesting things that are going on in our life and I want to share with you. I won’t be boring you on a daily basis just a few times a week.
So, forgive me for being absent so long. See you in a day or two.

Happy New Year!

3 Jan

Our New Year’s celebration was a quiet one.  We stayed home with the kids, well one of them anyway, and watched the countdown on television.  I had my nose stuck in a book the whole time.  I have never been one to make a resolution for the year but I have decided to do so this year.  I have decided that on the first day of each month I am going to set a small goal.  Am I setting myself up for twelve chances to fail?  Maybe.  But I figured one small goal each month should be easy enough to accomplish.  With that being said, January will be spent organizing my piles of paperwork.  My desk is stacked to the ceiling with all sorts of things that need to either be disposed of or filed away.  Now that the kids are back in school I shouldn’t have any interruptions to my progress.

The holidays just flew by.  Even though I never really felt prepared for Christmas it came and went without a hitch.  The kids were all pleased with their gifts even though we got them things they actually needed.  Boring things like clothes, socks, and toiletries with a few goodies thrown in.  The girls are too old for toys.  My son, on the other hand, still likes to get toys.  I’m sure there won’t be too many years left for that.

Here are a few pic of our celebration……

We now have a boatload of “nerf ammo” flying around.

Here are all the girls modeling our annual matching gifts.

See?  They really do like each other!

I know she blinked, but this was just too cute, I had to share!

Already finished.

Love the pink!  Used it Christmas day to make buckeyes.

John also got me a FABULOUS new camera.  That would be the reason I had so many pictures to put in this post.  I love it!

The kids are in school, the decorations are all put away and now my cluttered desk is calling me.

For those of you who did make resolutions for 2011 I wish you nothing but determination to stick with it.

I Have This Friend……..

22 Dec

I wouldn’t say that I am a big Facebook fan, but it has allowed me to reconnect with folks I haven’t seen or talked to in a very long time.  You won’t find me posting daily status updates or sending pictures from my camera phone.  My main reason for even having a Facebook account is to monitor my kids.  I know, I know, but it is a “Mom” thing.  I am simply amazed at what I see 14 year old girls saying via status updates and commenting on their “friends” postings.  Clearly some parents just don’t care what their kids do.  Anyway, this is not a Facebook bashing post.

One of my first friends when I joined up was someone I went to high school with.  We were not best friends or anything like that.  We had some classes together and we wrote skits for our Senior Follies (that was the senior class version of SNL).  I think I saw her one time after graduation at a wedding.  She moved out of state then proceeded to move out of the country!  She now lives in England with her husband.

About a year ago I was going through a particular rough patch and Kristen just happened to put a quote in her status update which kind of hit home with me, in a good way, and I told her so.  Since then, we chat via e-mail on a pretty regular basis.

So, why am I telling you all of this?  Well, her name is Kristen Ashley and she happens to be an author.  The first three books of the Rock Chick Series have been published and I must patiently wait for the other five!  I have read Rock Chick and Rock Chick RescueRock Chick Redemption is on my Christmas list and in the event that I don’t get it, I will be linking-up to Amazon first thing in the morning the day after Christmas!

When I get my hands on a good book I tend to have a difficult time putting it down and usually finish in about a day and a half (I have to take breaks every now and then to feed the family and let the dog out!).  Well, the first two Rock Chick books fall into that category and I am certain that I will have the same problem (if you want to call it that) with Redemption when I get my hands on it.

Upon finishing each book, I felt like I knew each of the characters personally and that I was right along with them on their wild ride.  The plot is fast paced and fun with some sexy-hot romance thrown in that keeps you turning page after page.  I could give you details but you really need to get the books and read for yourself!

You can find Rock Chick Redemption here.  This will link you to the first two titles as well.  You can also pay a visit to Kristen’s website,

It looks like it is going to be a long, cold, snowy winter out here in the midwest.  Perfect for settling in with a stack of books.  Just make sure you put Rock Chick on the top of your list!

Snow Day!………(almost)

13 Dec

We had a pleasant weekend doing a little bit of this…….

While we were wrapping presents, the dog took the opportunity to climb on the couch for a nap, which is a big no-no…

Alot of times we will find her napping with one of her ears covering her eyes.  Very cute!

Made some Marbled Peppermint Bark……….

(sorry for the poor picture quality, I am using Maggie’s camera which takes better pictures than mine, but still not great)

Indiana got hit with a snow storm yesterday.  The kids were hoping for a Snow Day but they had to settle for a 2-hour delay.  Right now it is 14 degrees, brrr…….It’s days like this that make me wonder why we don’t live somewhere south!

7 Dec

It is Tuesday afternoon and I am so tired I could sleep where I stand.

Why?  Why was I not able to sleep last night?  We went to bed at a decent hour, I was asleep by 11:30, I know this because the last thing I heard was sports on the evening news, then I was awake by 12:45 a.m.  My husband was still awake too but he has back pain that tends to keep him awake odd hours.  From 12:45 until about 3:00 a.m. I tossed and turned, listened to kids cough, listened while one of them got up to use the bathroom, certain my name would be called, and I had to keep pushing our fat cat off of my legs so I could toss and turn some more.  By 2 a.m. my husband and the dog were both snoring.  Of course the dog had been asleep since she curled up in her bed.

Today I had an interview for a volunteer position with The Indianapolis Children’s Museum.  Yes I said interview.  I had no idea so much would be involved just to allow me to donate my time.  There was the application process, the interview, the background check, something called “first day processing” (which is next Tuesday), then additional interviews with employees that oversee certain areas of the museum.  Whew!  Maybe subconsciously Iwas nervous about that, although I was not thinking about it.  All I could think about was why can’t I get to sleep?

I am excited about volunteering at The Children’s Museum, there are so many areas where I can spend my time, but I won’t know anything until next week.  I plan on volunteering one day per week.  I will keep you posted.

I tried to nap when I got home this afternoon, but I am not a napper.  If I am able to sleep during the day it is usually because I am sick.  So, I just layed on the couch for an hour thinking about all of the things I really need to get done today and the Christmas shopping that still needs to be done.  Now the girls are home and their brother will be here in about 25 minutes, then the chaos begins.  We have plans this evening so homework needs to be done sooner rather than later.

It will be early to bed tonight and hopefully sleep will come easily and last through the night.  Tomorrow is a busy day too!  No rest for the weary.  Isn’t that how the saying goes?

‘Tis the Season to be Merry!

29 Nov

Thanksgiving was a two day celebration this year.  We celebrated with in-town family on Thursday and our out-of-town family on Friday.  Whew!  That was alot of food.

During the drive on Friday, the kids were able to watch two of our favorite Christmas movies; Christmas Vacation and Elf.  It doesn’t matter how many times we have seen these movies, we all still have a good laugh while watching them.

After a day of recovery, we put up our Christmas tree on Sunday.  Now that the kids are older, most of the decorating is left to them.  The part I love the most is listening to the kids reminesce about all of the hand-made ornaments that we still put out every year.  Some are slightly broken or missing pieces, but until they are completely un-usable, the kids hand-mades still go on the tree.

“Whose Girl Scout troop made these?”

“My gosh, how old were you when you made that?”

“Don’t put that on the tree, you can’t even tell what it is!”  (I still know what it is, that is the important part)

When the kids were little we used to have to put the decorations high enough on the tree so little hands could not reach them.  Now we have to do the same thing to keep those pesky cats from getting them!  All during the night I could hear them darting in and out from under the tree chasing each other.  No surprise, this morning I found three ornaments in various places on the living room floor.

In our house we have the tradition of not putting any presents under the tree until Christmas Eve.  I guess I do this because I remember being a sneaky girl and along with my younger sister we would unwrap then rewrap our gifts.  One year we got albums.  We were so bold as to open them and listen to them!  I should be so ashamed.  So I guess knowing my history of peeking, I don’t give my kids any opportunity to peek.  Does that take all the fun?  I don’t know.

This is my absolute favorite ornament………..

I have had this for about 15 years.  It was a Secret Santa gift.  Where I was working at the time had a Secret Santa gift exchange and my Santa knew that I collected snowmen and this was my last gift of the week.  It’s body is about the size of a softball.  It has to be put on the tree where it can almost “sit” on one of the branches.

My son was asking me what kind of cookies I plan on making this year.  I had to tell him “Let’s just get the tree up first, then worry about the goodies.”

Happily, the baking will probably begin this weekend.
